Education can and does change the way we understand the world around us. It is widely recognised as one of the most important experiences in our society, and is considered a basic human right, at least at the fundamental and elementary level. While every country has its own unique education system, many similarities are evident in developed countries. Learning about history, math, science and language are compulsory. Education is recognised as a powerful way to pull people out of poverty. This is partly because it teaches people important skills, and also because it widens their perspective.
A career in education is a noble calling. Those who are patient, caring, enthusiastic, organised, and good at communicating may want to become educators. It is possible to teach in a variety of settings, from early childhood up until higher education. Wherever you feel called to teach, you have the potential to have a hugely positive impact on the students and/or children in your care.
