About us
Stark Food Systems provides equipment and engineering services for food manufacturing businesses. Our services include integrating food-processing systems, equipment upgrades, maintenance projects and supplying machinery and spare parts. We have operational facilities in NSW and VIC, and we are hiring for both locations.
Our work requires equipment to run reliably, meet production needs and allow effective cleaning and maintenance. We value practical technical skills, careful workmanship and clear communication with clients and project teams.
About the role
We are hiring Mechanical Engineering Technicians to support work on food-processing equipment and installations. Working under the technical direction of our Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists, you will assist with equipment development, assembly, installation, testing and maintenance.
The role combines hands-on work with measurement, analysis and technical documentation. You will help identify equipment faults, verify mechanical performance and support the integration of new or modified equipment into client production facilities.
What you'll do
- Assist engineers and engineering technologists with developing and modifying mechanical equipment for food-processing systems, considering production requirements, cleaning access and maintainability.
- Prepare technical sketches, component details and installation layouts under engineering direction, and interpret approved drawings and manufacturer specifications for project work.
- Select suitable tools, measuring instruments and mechanical components for assembly, installation and testing, checking compatibility with approved equipment specifications.
- Assemble and install new or modified mechanical assemblies and components, including applicable drive mechanisms and hydraulic systems, and check alignment, fit and fastening.
- Assist with the mechanical integration of equipment into existing production lines, checking interfaces, clearances and access before installation and commissioning.
- Estimate component quantities, material costs and machine requirements for installations, upgrades and repairs, and prepare parts lists to support procurement.
- Conduct workshop and on-site mechanical tests under approved procedures, checking operation, alignment and performance against specified requirements.
- Collect and analyse test and operating data, carry out technical calculations and prepare diagrams and reports to support engineering review and fault diagnosis.
- Investigate mechanical faults and recurring equipment problems, document your findings and recommend corrective action for review by the responsible engineer or technical lead.
- Organise equipment inspections and planned maintenance, coordinating approved work with fitters and other personnel to reduce disruption to client production.
- Check completed assemblies and installations against drawings, tolerances, project specifications and relevant requirements, documenting deviations and verifying approved corrections.
- Maintain test results, inspection records and equipment documentation, and follow site isolation, guarding, hygiene and safe working procedures during technical work.
About you
You are methodical, practical and comfortable moving between hands-on mechanical work and technical analysis. You check measurements carefully, follow approved specifications and raise issues before they affect equipment performance or safety.
Skills and competencies
- Sound understanding of mechanical systems, engineering drawings, component selection and installation methods.
- Ability to conduct mechanical tests, use measuring equipment and interpret operating data accurately.
- Practical fault-finding skills and the ability to explain findings through clear technical records.
- Ability to prepare sketches, calculations, parts lists and technical reports using suitable software and documentation tools.
- Awareness of hygiene, cleaning access and contamination risks when working on food-processing equipment.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to coordinate technical work around project and production schedules.
- Clear communication and a collaborative approach when working with engineers, trades personnel, suppliers and clients.
Qualifications and experience
- An AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, or at least three years of relevant experience in place of the formal qualification.
- Two to three years of relevant mechanical engineering technician experience is preferred.
- Experience in mechanical testing, assembly, installation, maintenance and technical documentation will be well regarded.
- Experience with food-processing machinery, production equipment or mechanical installation projects will be well regarded.
- Willingness to work at project and client sites across NSW and VIC as required.
Why join us
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to equipment installations, upgrades and maintenance projects in food manufacturing. You will work with our technical and project teams to improve equipment reliability and help clients integrate machinery into their operations.
